About Align

It was Sunday, July 13, 1980. At the ripe age of 21, I was preaching for the first time at the Alliance Church in Renville, Minnesota, a small town of 1,300 about 110 miles west of Minneapolis.

The number of people attending that Sunday was 18, which I thought was the smallest a church could be and still keep the lights on. Over the next four and a half years, I would discover just how small a church could get and still survive.

I did not know it then, but that Sunday in July 1980 was the first day of what would develop into 30 years of pastoral ministry, many of them in “smaller churches.”

Align Ministries is dedicated to those who serve in this often ignored, misunderstood, and neglected province of the Kingdom of God.

Statement of Faith

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
      who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
      and born of the virgin Mary.
      He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
      was crucified, died, and was buried;
      he descended to hell.
      The third day he rose again from the dead.
      He ascended to heaven
      and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
      From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
      the universal church,
      the communion of saints,
      the forgiveness of sins,
      the resurrection of the body,
      and the life everlasting. Amen.
